    Case in Brief

    Daarla Durga, aged 8 years, D/o Daarla Venkateshwara Rao, R/o Munjuluru, Bantumilli mandal, Machlipatnam, Krishna district was raped by Koonapa Peddanaga Raju, aged 40 years, R/o Munuluru, Bantumilli mandal, Machlipatnam, Krishna, Occ: Landlord, OC Kapu by caste on 24th April 2007, while her parents were working in his field.  Peddanaga Raju called Durga and said that he would pluck fruits and give her and took her into the garden and raped her.  He threatened that if she reveals the incident to any one he would kill her and her family.  Afraid by the threat she said that she would not speak even a word about that.  When he left, she ran to her parents with blood stained dress and narrated that incident.  They took her to the police station and got the case registered.  The same was reported to the collector, RDO, Social Welfare Officer and the girl was taken to the hospital.

    Megha Sanjay Dhabhade (9), a minor dalit girl is resident of Haram village, Achalpur- Tahsil in Amravati Dist., belongs to scheduled caste community. On 23/04/2007, Megha went to bring Milk from a shop (Mother Diary) of man belonging to dominant caste. He called her inside the room with a pretext and forcibly raped her by clutching her mouth with cloth.

     

    The victim came home back crying and narrated the incident to her parents. A case was registered on 26/04/2007, in Achalpur police station against rapist as No.37/07, u/s 354,342,506 IPC & 3(1)(xi) SC/ST (PoA) Act. Charge Sheet in the case is filed. Case is under Trial. Investigation conducted by Deputy Superintendent of Police. Two accused were arrested and later bailed out. Compensation of Rs. 25000/- is paid to the victim after the Medical Examination. Case compromised.

A Dalit marriage celebration attacked and looted due to untouchability, Gode village

  • Summary:: 107 Dalit families are living in village Gode under Tehsil Narnaul in Mahendergarh Dist. The practice of untouchability is very frequent in the village. Ahirwal community is a powerful caste in the village. On the occasion of marriage of a Dalit girl Girl Birma d/o Rohtash, belonging to Chamar (SC) caste from Chitrouli village, P.O. Kanina Tehsil Narnaul in Mahender Garh Dist. a marriage procession came to the village on 19/04/2007 at 9 p.m. When the marriage party entered the village Gode, Sunder (Driver), Hanuman S/o Lala and 10-11 other youth from Ahirwal caste attacked the marriage party for the reason of untouchability. All the youth from Ahirwal caste were drunk. They attacked the Dalit, who were present in marriage procession with Lathi and stones. Approx 100 Dalits were injured in this incident and three persons namely Raj Pal s/o Sh. Sohan Singh Caste Chmaar, Singh Raj S/o Parbhati lal, Nagar S/o Sh. Manbhar Village Kahara Rajasthan were seriously injured. The injured persons were admitted in Civil Hospital Narnaul for a week. The perpetrators also destroyed D.J. system, Jeep and also looted cash from the victim house. Police registered a case against the assailants in Narnaul police station under SC/ST (PoA) Act. Perpetrators are bail out. The victims have not received any compensation from the administration.

    Case in Brief

    Raghavamma migrated with her family for livlihood to Adavi Takkellapadu and is working as watchman for the fields of Dayakar.  He made her contest for the panchayat elections.  The victim won in the elections.  He used to pay her Rs.1,000/- per month and himself exercise the power.  He confined her and her son with the help of Bapayya when she questioned him.  They made her sign on blank papers, boycotted her from the village.

Dalit Murdered for Denying to Vote Against His Choice of a Candidate

  • Summary:: Late Shankar (40) S/o Dev Nandan, a coolie, a resident of Manhas Village, under Jalalpur P.S, Dist- Jonpur, Rajasthan, hails from a Scheduled Caste Chamar family. He was a sole bread winner of his family. On 17/4/07, while Shankar was on his way to his job, Ram Shankar (45) S/o Dasarath Singh, belonging to Thakur community, resident of the same village stopped Shankar near his uncle’s shop belonging to Ram Naresh Singh. The assailant Ram Shankar asked Shankar for calcium in order to mix the same with tobacco and tried to inquire with whom the victim is going to cast the vote in the election. Shankar replied “no one has the right to question him and he could cast his vote to whomsoever he likes”. After hearing his reply Ram Shankar got annoyed and forced Shankar to cast his vote as per his choice. As soon as he denied, Ram Shankar started to beat him with lathi. Shankar cried for help and fallen on the ground. The nearby villagers raised alarm and rushed towards Shankar in order to save him. Listening to the shouts, Vidya Devi w/o Shankar ran towards the incident place, where she found the villagers caught hold of Ram Naresh with lathi. She also found her husband lying on the road unconsciously with severe injuries. Immediately, Vidya Devi along with some of the villagers took her husband to the primary health centre of Jalalpur, where Dr. R.K. Singh asked her to pay Rs. 1,000/- for the treatment. Vidya Devi paid Rs.300/- and informed him that she would pay the balance amount after the treatment. She pleaded to save the life of her husband by all means. After half an hour condition of Shankar became critical and the doctor referred him to the district hospital. Since Vidya Devi did not have money to admit her husband in the district Hospital she borrowed Rs.500/- from her neighbors and admitted him to District Jonpur hospital. Later, Shankar died at the time of treatment and his Post Mortem was carried out. When the villagers of Dalit community came to know of the incident they blocked the traffic on National Highway-56 and demanded justice. After 3 hours, when SHO Anil Chand Tewari reached the spot and promised to register the FIR and arrest the perpetrators, the villagers cleared the road. On 17/4/07, police arrested the perpetrator and filed the FIR u/s 302 IPC & u/s 3(2) (v) of SC/ST (PoA) Act 1989. But still the family members of Ram Shankar threaten’s Shankar’s family with dire consequences, if they would go to the court to seek justice. Spot investigation conducted by D.S.P Mr. Vidya Saghar Mishra on 9-5-07. Case investigated by DSP Mr. Vidya Saghar Mishra. All accused arrested but bailed out. Charge Sheet no. 34/07 has been filed on 28/4/08 u/s. 304 IPC and 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST (PoA) Act, 1989. Case is under trial in Special SC/ST Court of Jounpur District. Compensation of Rs. 1,50,000 paid to the victim under SC/ST (PoA) Rules, 1995.
