Case brief
Case summary
On 19.01.2022, five persons including Yelumalai (35) from Manivakkam along with Rajesh (35), a Dalit community from Manimangalakam, Sriperumbudur area, Kanchipuram district, were engaged in cleaning the septic tank in an apartment owned by Jayakumar, a resident of Varadarajapuram PTC near Mudichur. When Rajesh and Yelumalai went down inside the tank and cleaned it up to pick it up as the wastewater had accumulated at the bottom of the tank. Both died of poisoning inside the tank. Manimangalam police arrived at the spot, investigated and summoned the fire department, and then removed the bodies of the two from the tank. The bodies of the two were taken to Crompton Government Hospital where they were autopsied and handed over to the relatives of the two who died at around 7.00 pm that night. The bodies were buried the next day on 20.01.2022.
