The incident took place in Madhopur village of Madhuban police station area in East Champaran district of Bihar state.The victim, Nilam Devi, approximately 23 years old, wife of Mr. Krishna Paswan, belongs to the Scheduled Caste (Dusadh) and is a resident of the aforementioned village, while the accused, Ramjanm Bhagat, son of Sitaram Bhagat, 50 years old, and others, belong to the Backward Caste (Koiri) and are residents of Araji Nanhkar village. The villages of both the victim and the accused share a common boundary.A long-standing land dispute exists between the victims and the accused. According to the victims, the disputed land is their ancestral property, and they possess the land records. On the other hand, the accused claim that they purchased the said land from a villager. According to them, the victims' ancestors had sold their land to a villager, from whom the accused subsequently purchased it. However, the victims allege that the accused have fabricated land documents. The accused are attempting to forcibly encroach upon the victims' land. The land-related case is ongoing in the Munsiff Court of Motihari. The court has issued an injunction prohibiting both parties from working on the land. However, the accused are disregarding the court order. On November 19, 2025, the accused were removing wood from the said land and taking it to their homes. When the victims protested, the accused, armed with weapons, launched a deadly attack on them. Seven people were injured in the attack, two of whom were in critical condition and not expected to survive. The most seriously injured was Krishna Paswan, who sustained a severe head injury. It is reported that he was attacked with an axe on his head. A case has been registered at the local Madhuban police station, FIR No. 421/25
