Case summary
Vellaiyan, S/o Mr. Saminathan is a resident of Venmankondan colony of Udaiyarpalayam Taluk of Ariyalur District. He belongs to the Scheduled Caste community and working as a digger in graveyards. On 09.11.2017 at about 8: 00 pmthe village leader (Thalaiyari) Mr. Rajendran, S/o Mr. Subramaniam along with the community leaders called for a meeting to assemble near the Kalliamman Temple.
More than 1000 persons including men, women, youth, children and elders assembled near the temple. At that time the village leader Rajendran called Vellaiayan, Selvanayagan, Thangiyan, Duraisamy, Ramalingam and Kalliyaperumal. He asked them about a boy named Rajendran belonged to the Venmankondan Colony stating that he had married a dominant caste girl (vanniyar community) and asked the above said 6 persons to handover the young couple to them.
Vellaiyan along with the 5 persons told that they did not know anything about this issue and immediately the village leader verbally abused them in filthy language referring to their caste names and also socially boycotted the Dalit families. More than 10days the Dalit families are struggling to get the basic and essential commodities for their living including food, drinking water, milk and other essentials.
