In this incident, the caste that perpetrated the atrocities is the dominant caste in the village. They are financially strong and are also in big organisations. They are also associated with high government positions. Our volunteer Jai Bhaane, who lives in the village and is also associated with our organisation and comes from the SC category, had a love marriage with a girl from the same upper caste and went to live in a different village with his wife. This was the reason for their hatred and resentment. And they used to abuse the people of the scheduled castes who used to come and go everyday on the basis of caste. But to maintain peace in the village, all the people of the SC caste kept listening to their abuses silently. But on the night of the incident, the same 8/10 people of the village came and called the victim from the cowshed and said that you people of Mang-Mahar kidnap our mothers, sisters and daughters and take them away, we will kill you all, we will not keep you even for treatment, saying this, they beat the victim and went away. Next day morning also they went to the victim's house and beat him saying that why was he going to file a police complaint at night, he was in trouble for money and then seeing Laxmi who lived in the victim's neighbourhood, they used foul language and said that we will take away the left women of Mang-Mahar also, we will take them away for money and Sunil sat there slapping him on his face saying that you people have forgotten the incident of 1998. You should be beaten up again in the temple saying this and went away.
