The institutional killing of four members of the same Dalit family.
The incident took place in Navalpur Mishrauliya village, under the jurisdiction of the Sakra police station in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar.Amarnath Ram, a member of the Scheduled Caste community, lived in the aforementioned village. His financial condition was extremely dire. His wife passed away due to a lack of medical treatment; she had been a key contributor to the household's work, and her death left the family in a truly wretched state. Amarnath himself suffered from chronic illness. He had taken a loan from a microfinance company, and it is alleged that company employees pressured him relentlessly for repayment. Government schemes failed to alleviate his poverty, and due to his destitute condition, even government officials paid no heed to his grievances. It is reported that he had been making repeated visits to the Block office seeking a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Driven to despair, Amarnath took his own life—and that of his three daughters—by hanging on the night of January 15, 2026. This amounts to a form of institutional killing. Fortunately, his two young sons, Shivam and Chandan, survived; the district administration has since admitted both children to the Scheduled Caste Residential School in Muzaffarpur.
