Case summary

The complainant resides with her husband Pandurang Sawant and their children at Anbadvet/Amralewadi, Taluka Mulshi, District Pune, where the family earns its livelihood through welding work. Since 2012, while living on rent in the village, the complainant and her family have been repeatedly harassed, abused, and humiliated by several village residents on various occasions.
In February 2023, when the complainant's husband went to connect a pipe to a public water tap, several accused persons assaulted him with hands, abused him using casteist words, forcibly removed the pipe, and assaulted other family members as well. On 09/03/2025, due to previous enmity, the same group stopped the complainant’s son on the road, assaulted him with stones, iron rods, and sticks, and beat the complainant, her husband, and daughters when they tried to intervene. The accused also threatened the family with severe consequences, including references to the Khairlanji incident, to deter them from approaching the police.
Further, on 26/04/2023 at around 10:00 pm, while the complainant was at Amralewadi Chowk with her daughter and granddaughter, Prasad Kailas Amrale abused them, made threatening and humiliating remarks, threw stones causing injuries to the complainant, and continued to threaten her. The accused persons collectively blocked roads, intimidated the complainant, and continued their threats even thereafter.
Overall, the complainant alleges that the named accused persons, acting in collusion at various times between February 2023 and April 2025, repeatedly abused her and her family with caste-based language, assaulted them using hands, sticks, iron rods, and stones, caused physical injuries, mental harassment, and intimidation, particularly in relation to the use of public water facilities, thereby committing cognizable offences under law.
