The incident took place in Madhuban village, under the jurisdiction of the Madhuban police station in the East Champaran district of Bihar. On July 21, 2026, influential locals launched a life-threatening, armed attack on the victim, Pinki Devi (wife of the late Vinod Ram), and her 17-year-old son, Kanhaiya Kumar. The assailants hurled caste-based slurs at the victims and inflicted severe, bloodied injuries during the assault, specifically fracturing the heads of both the mother and son. A case (Case No. 257/26) has been registered at the Madhuban police station. The incident stemmed from the fact that the assailant, Lalan Prasad, had illegally obtained the registration of land belonging to Pinki Devi and was attempting to forcibly occupy it—an action the victims had opposed. It is noteworthy that the victim belongs to a Scheduled Caste and is extremely poor; her husband is deceased. In contrast, the assailant is an influential and affluent individual belonging to a Backward Caste.
