Case brief
Case summary
In Bochanahalli village, Koppal Taluk, Koppal District, on 26 June 2026, people from all communities had gathered to celebrate the occasion of Moharram together. During the celebrations, a person belonging to the Kuruba community, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, stumbled and fell onto members of the Scheduled Caste (Madiga community).
At that time, Yamanappa, a member of the Madiga community, said, "Why are you drunk and falling onto our boys? Please go over there." Following this, a verbal altercation broke out between members of the Madiga community and people from other communities present at the celebration. After the argument, the members of the Madiga community returned to their homes.
On the following day, 27 June 2026, members of the Muslim, Kuruba, Achari, and Uppara communities and mainly Valmiki communities allegedly gathered together and surrounded the Madiga locality (Scheduled Caste street), shouting loudly. Hearing the commotion, two 16-year-old boys from the Madiga community came out of their house to see what was happening. They were allegedly assaulted by members of the other communities.
At the same time, other residents of the Madiga community who came outside to find out the reason for the disturbance were also allegedly assaulted. It is alleged that Mansoor, along with others and of his own volition, physically attacked and beat the members of the Madiga community.
