A minor dalit girl was abducted and raped, then murdered, and her body was thrown into a canal.
The incident took place in Murlipur village, located within the jurisdiction of the Taraiya police station in the Saran district of Bihar. In this village, a single family belonging to the Nat community (a Scheduled Caste) lives in isolation along the banks of a canal, away from the main village. Their economic condition is extremely dire. The head of the family is Sonajhari Devi; her husband, Shatrudhan Nat, left for another location some years ago. Because they are an isolated family, they are frequently targeted by dominant individuals and troublemakers from the village and surrounding areas. These men eye the women of the family—the daughters and daughters-in-law—with malicious intent; they also seek to forcibly seize the family's land and are pressuring Sonajhari Devi to flee the village.
It is reported that on the night of August 21, 2026, Mintu Rai—son of Kashi Rai and a resident of Shahnawazpur Pachmindar, within the jurisdiction of the Taraiya Police Station—abducted the 14-year-old daughter of Sonajhari Devi. He raped her and, with the intent to destroy evidence, murdered her and threw her body into a water-filled canal. Two days after the abduction, on August 23, 2026, the body was discovered near the canal bridge.
It should be noted that on August 21, 2026, there was continuous communication—lasting three hours, from 12:00 midnight to 3:00 AM—between the victim’s mobile number (9253004964) and the accused Mintu Rai’s mobile number (8757347517). This confirms that the incident was carried out by Mintu Rai. Furthermore, Sonajhari Devi had already filed a case (Case No. 360/26) at the Taraiya Police Station on August 22, 2026, in which she accused Mintu Rai of abducting her daughter.
It is said that Mintu Rai had long been eyeing Sonajhari Devi’s daughter with ill intent. The police have arrested the criminal Mintu Rai and sent him to jail.
