On 25 November 2024, between 11:00 AM and 11:20 AM, Kiran Satish Shinde, age 22, and his family, residents of Kapilapuri, Paranda Taluka, Dharashiv District, were verbally and physically assaulted by a group of individuals from the village, including Rajkumar Jain, Jaykumar Jain, Bhartesh Awani, Jayghosh Jain, Kishor Awani, Vaibhav Awani, Nabiraj Awani, Bahubali Masalkar, Jitendra Vasgadekar, Anil Vasgadekar, Ranjit Rajkumar Jain, and Jagdish Jain.
The attack occurred after Kiran and his family exercised their right to vote against the assailants' preference in the assembly elections. The accused hurled casteist abuses against the Matang community, struck Kiran with iron rods causing injuries to his head, left elbow, and back, and forcibly entered the house. They assaulted his mother Mohini and aunt Rekha, pulled Mohini's saree, damaged household items, and threatened to burn down the house.
The attack was interrupted by local villagers, including Avinash Masgude, Appa Masgude, and Omkar Mane, who rescued the family. Kiran and his family received medical treatment at the Sub-District Hospital, Paranda, and a complaint was filed at Paranda Police Station.
The incident constitutes a targeted, caste-based assault with threats to life and property.
