Dominants People had launched Mass attack on Dalits heading
for worship and molest women
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The incident took place in Barji village, under the jurisdiction of the Motipur police station in Muzaffarpur district. On July 9, 2026, the son of Chunnu Ram—a member of a Scheduled Caste—was getting married. Following long-standing custom, the women of the family, along with their relatives, were accompanying the groom to a local Shiva temple for prayers around 4:00 PM, accompanied by music and festivities. As they entered 'Brahmin Tola' (a locality inhabited primarily by Brahmins), more than a dozen individuals from the Brahmin community, armed with weapons, launched a collective attack on the Dalit group. The assailants beat several men and women, leaving them injured. In this manner, members of the Brahmin community prevented the Dalits from offering prayers at the temple. Furthermore, the attackers subjected the Dalit women to caste-based slurs, molestation, and other forms of mistreatment.
Threats of being killed were issued in the event that the incident was reported to the police or a case was filed. Disregarding these threats, a nephew of Chunnu Ram lodged a case (Case No. 268/26) at the Motipur Police Station on September 16, 2026. The police are displaying apathy toward the matter. The case involves 11 named individuals—including Suman Kumar Kashyap—as well as 20–25 unidentified accused persons.
