Sonali Dattatray Shinde, aged 34 years, belongs to the Scheduled Caste (Mahar) community and resides at Khivadi, Taluka Man, District Satara.
On 29 January 2020, she had lodged a complaint against Shivaji Sahebrao Dadas under the provisions relating to outraging modesty and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Since the registration of the said case, Shivaji Sahebrao Dadas, who belongs to the Hindu Dhangar community, has been holding a grudge against her. Whenever she passes through the village road, he angrily stares at her with an intimidating expression.
About a month ago (exact date not remembered), Shivaji Sahebrao Dadas stopped Sonali on the road and told her not to use that route. Sonali informed her father about this incident.
Thereafter, at about 9:30 p.m. on a later day (exact date not remembered), after the family had finished dinner and were sitting in the courtyard of their house, Shivaji Sahebrao Dadas came to their house and told her husband and children to withdraw the complaint filed against him by the Mahar family. He threatened that if the complaint was not withdrawn, he would burn their children alive and would not allow them to live in the village. He abused them and issued threats to kill before leaving the house.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. at Takewadi, Taluka Man, District Satara. Shivaji Sahebrao Dadas, who belongs to the Hindu Dhangar community, again threatened that unless the complaint lodged against him was withdrawn, he would burn Sonali and her children alive and ensure that they would not be allowed to reside in the village.
