On 10 December 2024, at around 5:00 pm, complainant Kachru Vitthalrao Godbole, a 51-year-old agriculturist from Sarang Nagar, Parbhani, was standing on Railway Station Road in front of the District Collector’s Office, Parbhani, when he noticed a crowd near the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar statue. Upon approaching, he saw his acquaintances — Akash Ahire, Santosh Khare, Raju Baban Kamble, and Akash Gangadhar Chitte — questioning a man for allegedly removing the symbolic Constitution booklet from its iron stand in front of the statue and throwing it on the ground, thereby damaging it. The man identified himself as Dattarao Sopanrao Pawar, 47 years old, caste Maratha, resident of Mirzapur, T.D. Parbhani. When asked why he desecrated the booklet and hurt the religious sentiments of the Ambedkarite and Buddhist communities, he gave vague answers and later remained silent. A crowd gathered and pushed the accused before police arrived, who then took him to the hospital in a government vehicle. The complainant has lodged a formal complaint requesting legal action against Dattarao Sopanrao Pawar for damaging the symbolic Constitution booklet and hurting religious sentiments.
