B Anusha, D/o BVN Prasanna Kumar, SC by caste, R/o H.No.650, Old MIG, BHEL, Lingampally, Hyderabad is studying final year B.Com (Foreign Trade) in Villa Marie College, Somajiguda, Hyderabad.  On 3^rd September, 2009, Anusha with her friends Nishita, Nikhita, Aishwarya, Amrutha went to see the dead body of the Chief Minister, Mr. YS Rajashekar Reddy.  As Anusha did not return home till late in the evening, her mother Radha Bai called Nishita’s mobile and scolded them for being late. 

Later her friends have come to know that she belongs to SC community.  Since then these four girls began to harass Anusha.  They used to comment her and alienate as she belonged to SC community.  They did not allow the other class mates also to talk to her, sit or even eat with her.  They also used to blame her saying that she has extra-marital relations.  Unable to bear the harassment, she also avoided the special classes and informed her mother. Her uncle Rajender went to the college and informed her class in-charge about the harassment and requested for proper action, but in vain. 

Since four days before the incident, the above mentioned four girls made Anusha sit separately in the class room.  Though class in-charge was aware of this discrimination, he failed to take any action.  On 5^th November, 2009, Anusha went to college as usual.  As soon as she went inside, the four girls started harassing her by commenting in front of all the other class mates.  Anusha could not bear the humiliation and she said her friends that at least if she dies, they would come near her to see her dead body.  Still, no one cared her.  She sent a sms to her father’s mobile stating, “DAD BYE. I AM GOING TO DIE”.  On seeing the message, her father and uncle tried to contact her over phone but her mobile was switched off.  She ran to the top floor and jumped from there.  The college management failed to take any step till her death and even after. 

One of Anusha’s class mates called her uncle over phone at 09:45 am and informed that Anusha jumped off from the college building.  The college management moved her body to Yashoda Hospital and left away immediately.

A. Padrakali (25), resident of A. Kaliyamputhur, Palani Taluk, Tindugal District, belongs to Dalit Pallan community. He fell in love with on S. Sripriya (22), resident of A. Kaliyamputhur, Palani Taluk, Tindugal District, belongs to dominant caste hindu Kallar community. As Sripriya’s  parents came to know about their love affair, they objected to their love affair and marriage plan. Padrakali and Sripriya who were stubborn in their love, decided to elope and to get marry. As planned they eloped to Salem and registered their marriage. As Padrakali’s sister received threat calls they approached the Tindugal Police to provide security.

Padrakali and Sripriya moved to Tiruppur and took refuge in Padrakali’s sister house located in Madathukulam, Udumalaipet Taluk, Tiruppur District. Srinivasan father of Sripriya came to know about her daughter whereabouts, Srinivasan insisted Sripriya to come home as their parents are not happy and feel shame about their inter caste marriage with a lower caste man. But Sripriya refused to null the marriage and decided to live with Padrakali.

On 04/11/2009 again for the third time, Srinivasan visited Sripriya, along with his nephew Raj Kannan and one another person, to convince her to come back home. At the time Padrakali is out of home, only C. Rani sister of Padrakali and Eashwari tenant of the house were in the house. Srivasan told their family lost their respect in the neighbourhood due to inter-caste marriage of Sripriya. As Sripriya was stubborn in her decision to live with Padrakali, she refused to go with theem. Disappointed Srinivasan, Raj Kannan, left the house. After 30 minutes Rajkannan came back to Sripriya with a bag full of fruits, and said father asked us give this fruits to you. Then he saying that her mother wants to speak to her, he gave the Cellphone. On receving the cellphone got into her room and Rajkannan followed her into the room. On noticing this C. Rani and Eashwari asked Rajkannan not to enter the room. The Other person locked both of them in a room and Rajkannan entered into the room of Sripriya and stabbed her to death. On hearing the cry of Rani and Eashwari for help, people came to their rescue. In the mean time Rajkannan and the other perpetrator escaped from the scene. Then a case was filed in this regard and the three perpetrators were arrested. 

K. Prabhakaran (20), resident of Chinnammapuram, Ganapathipalayam, Erode District, belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar community. He father Mr. Karuppasamy is a Government Bus Driver. Prabhakaran is pursuing Diploma in Mechanical Enginerring at AL-AMEEN Polytecnic college. Praveena (20) c/o Ms. Saroja (Aunt)belongs to dominant caste hindu Kouder community, who lost both her parents, is living in her aunt’s house at Anupparpalayam. Praveena is pursuing B.Sc Mathematics in Nanthan Science and Arts College, Perundurai. Prabhakaran and Praveena fell in love. On 03/11/09, they went to Thiruchengodu Siva Temple. Someone reported this to Saroja and her son Mohanraj. During the evening around 5.30pm Mohanraj and Saroja beaten her and tortured her for her love affair. Praveena called Prabhakaran and informed him about the torture. Since Prabhakaran’s house in close to Saroja’s house, Prabhakaran walked by their house. Then Mohanraj called Prabhakaran and asked him to come to the house. As Prabhakaran went infront of Moharaj’s house, Mohanraj verbally abused him saying “you sakkili need a Kounder girl to love, how dare you love Praveena whom I am going to marry?. Then he slapped him over his ear many times and brutally assaulted him with a lathi. Praveena who came to his rescue was also severely beaten. Prabhakaran fainted down, on noticing this assault, Punniamoorthy, Vijayakumar, immediately informed this to Prabhakaran’s mother and other villagers. When his mother and other villagers, enquired about this assault, Mohanraj and his mother Saroja verbally abused them referring derogatory regarding caste. Then Mohanraj dragged Praveena in to a car and absconded from the place of incident. Prabhakaran was taken to the Erode Government Hospital for medical treatment.

On 04/11/2009, 8.30pm Saravanan, Kaarmeham, Manikaraasu, Duraisamy and other 5 members belonging to Kounder community, came to the hospital and threatened him not to tell anything about the love affair. Hence Prabhakaran lied to the DSP who came to investigate the case, as he was verbally abused and assaulted by Saroja and her son Mohanraj while he was fetching water in the public water pipe. Later on Prabhakaran met the Superintendent of Police, Erode and reported the real incident. Police have not arrested the two three perpetrators and the Kounders who threatened Prabhakaran. Later this case was dismissed in the Erode Sessions Court.

Rettiyarpatti village, Palayangkottai Taluk, Thirunelveli District is home to diverse community people. Veeran Sundaralingam (Freedon Fighter and Great community leader of Dalit Pallan community), Photo Board, is located infront of the community hall (belongs to Dalits) of this village. Narayanan, resident of Rettiyarpatti, belongs to dominant caste hindu Nadar community. He is discriminatory in his practice against the Dalits. His wife is working as a Sun-Inspector of Police and his sister is the Panchayat members. Since his family is influential in this locality, he used to indulge in “Kattapanchayat”. He is envious about the Dalit assertion. He commission atrocity against Dalits and file false cases against the Dalits. He was implicated under SC/ST PoA Act for the assault of Arumugham, resident of Rettiyarpatti. He tried to illegally occupy the burial ground belongs to Dalit community. But the Dalits stalled this attempt. After this failed attempt, alleging that the Community Hall is built by the MLA fund, he has kept the community hall closed and kept the key with him. The community hall belongs to dalit community was remaining closed for the last four years. Dalits of this village filed a petition with the District Collector seeking the ownership of the hall  and to take action against Narayanan.

Veeran Sundaralingam Photo Board, was infront of the Community Hall for the last 20 years. Nadars and Narayanan, were apprehensive about the Photo. Hence on 30/10/2009 midnight, Narayanan and 20 other people belongs to Nadar community, poured paint on the photo of Veeran Sundaralingam as a sign of defamation. In the morning, on noticing this defamation, Dalits staged a road blockade. Hence Police officials vistited the spot and promised to arrest the culprits. Till date no one was arrested regarding this defamation and since his wife is a SI of Police, the main culprit Narayanan’s name was not included in the FIR of this case.
