Pathivela Sharon Kumari (22) SC Madiga is the daughter of George Paul, resident of Kundurusavaram, K.Gangavaram Mandal of East Godavari. Sharon was studying intermediate. George Paul is Pastor and runs a church in his village. He got in touch with K.Gangavaram OC by cast in a revival meeting.  He invited him to his place. Simeon Raju came to K.Gangavaram and settled in the house of George Paul. He developed intimacy with Sharon and they both fell in love. Having come to know the affair George Paul tried to get her married to his brother-in-law’s son. Having come to know her affair they rejected the proposal. As her menstrual periods have stopped, Sharon approached the doctor and has come to know that she was pregnant. Sharon went out of the house on the pretext of going to her aunt’s house. On the same day George met Simeon on the way to Rajamundry. Simeon met Sharon on the way and took her to Parthipadu and got her aborted. Later Sharon went back to her home. Since then he avoided Sharon. Later George caught hold of Simeon and got married to his daughter in the presence of the caste elders. Simeon requested not to reveal to any one until his sister’s marriage is over. After some time George sent the marriage photos to the parents of the Simeon through caste elders. Simeon’s parents sent him out of the house. Simeon returned back to his in law’s house took Sharon and started living in Draksharamam. Sharon was twice aborted as her husband did not take proper care. For the third time when she became pregnant her parents took her to their house on the advice of the doctor. Simeon stopped coming to Sharon since she was 5^th month pregnant. George went to Simeon’s house and his parents offered water to him. When he has revealed that he was the father of Sharon, they threw away the glass and send him out. Later Simeon took her and stared staying separately in his place. Often he used to beat her and demanded her for much dowry. As Simeon was looking for other alliances George Paul approached the S.I of K. Ganagavaram. The S.I questioned his parents and they agreed to take Sharon to their house but until now they have not taken her.

Tamil Nadu government in the name of Industrial development grabbing the Dalit lands jeopardizing their livelihood, housing and decent standard of living. SIPCOT is planning to acquire the lands of Dalits from 8 villages namely Mettur, Muppilievatti, North Parumbur, South Parumbur, Mel Lakshmiapuram, South Avarangaadu, Mel Meenakshiapuram, Keel Meenakshiapuram, Mel Subramaniapuram. Industrial development in these region will lead to pollution of drinking water, depletion of ground water resources, and dumping of industrial wastes. This will have huge impact on the health aspects of these villagers. But some influential sections are making false propaganda that industrial development will leads to good road facilities, transport facilities and employment opportunities.  Food security will be disturbed if the agricultural lands are diverted for industrial purpose. Government is acquiring the lands belongs to Dalits excluding the lands of dominant caste hindus. This discriminatory approach of the SIPCOT is under condemnation by the Dalit Solidarity groups working for the land and housing rights of the dalits in this region. 

Atapaka Social Welfare Hostel has a total of 110 students and contains 12 rooms. Some rooms does not have bolts. The hostel has 10 toilets which are located away from the rooms. The compound wall is not too high enough. On the day of incident i.e. on 7^th August 2009 at midnight an unidentified person entered into one of the room. As he stepped over one of the girl, she woke up and shouted. The remaining girls also woke up and shouted. The unidentified person ran away. Having received the information the police have reached the hostel and searched for the person. Having come to know DSS intervened into the incident.  DSS ensured that the height of the wall raised and glass pieces on the top of the wall, bolts for all the doors and a watch man appointed.

Chettypudur and Thandakkaranpalayam villages are in Sevur  Union, Avinashi Taluk, Tiruppur District. This villages are prone to recurrent atrocities against Dalits. Untouchability practice and caste discrimination are boastfully practiced by the caste hindu Kounder community against the dalits. Most of the Dalits are work as labours in agricultural filed belongs to Kounders. Caste based atrocities are commissioned very often against the dalits. Chennippan and other Kounders fearlessly unleash atrocities against the dalits.

K. Palanisamy, resident of Chettypudur, belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar community. He is working as a loom operator in a Loom belongs to Devaraj located in Sevur. On 05/08/09, he went to Sevur to meet Devaraj about the strike announced by the Loom Owners Union. Around 08.30, on his way back to home, he stopped at a Tasmac shop and had alcohol. While buying the drinks, Chennippan and his associates noticed that Palanisamy was having more money on his pocket. Hence the Chenniappan and his associated plotted to usurp the money. Nearby Thandakaranpalayam village, Chenniappan, Kumar, Shandaana Moorthy, Vijay kumar, Prakash, Gurusamy, Murugaesh and Suppan,  all belongs to dominant caste hindu Kounder community and residents of Thandakkaranpalayam, asked Palanisamy to stop his vehicle. Palanisamy stopped the vehicle with hesitation. Then the mob brutally assaulted him accusing him for not stopping the vehicle immediately. They tied him hands behind and beaten him with wooden logs and coconut tree branches. They snatched Rs. 3000 from him and also his mobile phone. They confined him for nearly 3 hours and brutally assaulted him. On hearing the assault, Thangamani w/o Palanisamy and Palanisamy’s father Kuppan came to his rescue, but the mob have not spared them. Kuppan was also assaulted and Thangamani was manhandled by the mob. They pulled her jacket and sexually harassed her. The mob removed the clothes of Palanisamy and held him half naked. On hearing the assault, the dalits around the village gathered and preyed the mob to leave them. But the mob having no fear for law persistently assaulted Palanisamy, they forced one Jothimani belongs to kounder community to lodge a false complaint against Palainisamy for sexual harassment. They forcefully got a signature from Kuppan on a blank paper and threaten to kill them if they report about this atrocity to the police. Then they mob called up local newspapers and made false accusations on Palanisamy for sexual harassment. Palanisamy who sustained grievous injury was taken to the Avinashipalayam government hospital with the help of A.C. Kumar and Radhamani.

The Avinashipalayam Government Hospital has not provided medical treatment to Palanisamy. Sevur Police Department refused to entertain the complaint given by the victim. Local politicians threatened him not to file a complaint with the police station. After the intervention of the A.C. Kumar a case was filed against the perpetrators and Palanisamy was sent to Coimbatore Government Hospital.

Seven perpetrators were arrested in this regard. Interim compensation of Rs. 6250 was provided to the victim. Later this was closed after acquitting all the perpertrators.
