    K.Prisukumar (29), resident of Sowmiya Garden, K. North Madurai, Coimbatore district, belongs to Dalit community. He is pursuing BE 4th year in Coimbatore GCT Engineering College. On 02/01/2010, around 3pm, while on his way to the Pothanur Railway station to book train ticket for his father, he stopped his bike at LNT Bye-pass road near Malumichampatti to have his lunch. While he was having the lunch, under a tree in a nearby farm, Balu, the nearby farm owner, enquired who he was. Parisukumar in return who are you to ask about me. Hence Balu replied that he is the owner of the farm land and also a leader of the Kongu Paeravai party. Parisukumar replied that he is a BE graduate and his uncle is associated with the VCK Party. On knowing that he belongs to Dalit community, Balu and four of his associates,verbally abused him referring derogatory regarding caste and beaten him with the tire, saying “how dare you (Dalit) speak to us like this. Parisukumar sustained severe injury all over his body. He managed to reach Kovai Government Hospital to get medical treatment. Chettipalayam visited the hospital and received the complaint.

     

    Balu and one of his associates were arrested regarding this atrocity. Remaining 3 of the perpetrators were not arrested.

    K. Sampath (43), resident of Arunthathiyar Colony, Koundanpalayam, Bhavani Taluk, Erode District, belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar Community. He is working in a loom industry. On 01/01/2010, around 12.30 am, Kodiswaran and his friends were celebrating new year eve with cake near the Maduraiveeran Kovil. They shared new year wishes to Muthuvel, Ramachandiran, Periyasamy, Pushparaj, Yuvaraj, Moorthy all belongs to Kounder commumity, who came along the way in their bike. But the caste hindus, abused them saying, how dare you sakkili mother fuckers celebrate new year and asked them why you sakkilis are celebrating new year. When the Dalits youths objected to this, they again verbally abused them referring derogatory regarding caste. Sampath, who was returning home from work, witnessed this and asked Arunthathiyar youths to return to home. In the midst, suddenly the Kounder community youths started attacking the dalits with deadly weapons like knife, lathis, Cement slabs and blades. When Sampath asked them to stop the onslaught, the attacked Sampath. The perpetrators slit Sampath’s neck. Sampath sustained severe injury in his neck, nose, cheek and he fell uncouncious. All others sustained minor injury. Sampath was hospitalized at the Erode Government hospital for medical treatment. As the people gathered hearing the cry of the victims, all the perpetrators ran away from the scene.

     

    People of the Arunthathiyar Colony went to the Andiyur Police Station to file the complaint. But the Head Constable Shivaji refused to register the complaint. Then the Dalits approached the SI Suresh and asked to file the complaint, even he refused to file the complaint. Hence all the Dalits of the village staged a demonstration protesting the Police negligence. Then the Police registered the FIR and arrested two of the perpetrators. After another protest demonstration, police arrested 6 others accused regarding this atrocity.

Gang rape and murder of a Dalit teacher- Jhajjar

  • Summary:: Renu d/o Harswarup, the resident of Ravidas Mohalla, Charkhi Dadri om Bhiwani Dist. belongs to Chamar (SC) community. She was an unmarried girl. She was teaching in a private school. On 31st December 2009, she became victim of gang rape. She was brutally murdered after the rape by Shribhagwan Dangi, Sombir Rawaldhi belongs to Jat Community. The rape was confirmed after the postmortem report. After the murder the body was dumped near under construction railway lines of Khedi khumar village at night on the incident day. On 1st January, 2010, a case has been registered against the rapists as 01.01.10, No. 1/10, u/s 376 G/ 306/ 120 B IPC 4 SC/ST (PoA) Act. . The provision of SC/ST (PoA) Act is not invoked in the FIR. It is learnt from the victim’s family that the police is trying to hush-up the case. The accused are scot free. The victim’s family has not received any compensation from the administration. Charge sheet is not filed

Death due to Accident at Workplace

    Auro Food (p) Ltd is in Pulichampalayam village, Villupuram District. In this flour mill nearly 300 labourers were employed. On 10 people out of this 300 were given as full time employees and the rest were contract labourers. Almost all the contract labourers were brought from other north and north-eastern states. The management of the Auro Food is apprehensive about labour organization and all the labour organization were dissolved by the company management. All the contract were provided poor accomadation facilities and deprived of proper sanitation facilities.

     

    On 31/12/2009, while Sushil Das, native of Sudhabarimulla village, Puri District, Orissa, working in Auro Food as Migrant Contract, was operating the government banned Shifter Machine, the machine hit him accidently causing severe injury on his head. He was admitted in the JIPMER Hospital, Pondicherry. On 04/01/2010, he succumbed to the injury and died. On 05/01/2010, after the post mortem, company administration plotted to burn the body inside the company. But the Sushil Das was taken to his Native village in Odisha.  

     

    A. Cheran, Secretary of Auro Food Employees Association, and other employees asked the management to provide monetary compensation to the family of the deceased Sushil Das. Due to the negligence of the company management, the meeting ends in a failure. Soon after this meeting, Police from the Vanur Police station and striking force arrested Cheran and others alleging that they destroyed the company properties. Cheran was kept under custody Cuddalore Jail.

Suspicious Death of a Dalit youth

    K. Selvakumar (28), resident of Eraiyanur village, Tindivanam Taluk, Villupuram District, belongs to Dalit Paraiyar community. He is a B.Sc graduate and working as daily wage labour. His brother Murugadoss is working as a mason. On 29/12/2009, around 12 pm while Selvakumar was watching TV, Murugadoss on returning home from home, scolded Selvakumar for watching TV without bothering to go for work. This led to a scuffle between them. Murugan (their uncle) separated and pacified them. On seeing this, their mother Savithri scolded them. After this scuffle, both told that they are going to work and left the house. Selvakumar who left the house, went to his sister Tamilarasi’s house and had lunch. After 30 minutes Selvakumar was found dead near the water pool in the village. There were beat marks over his back side and there wound marks on his forehead. He was taken to the hospital and the doctors said that he was brought dead. Relatives and villagers staged a protest seeking filing the case under suspicious death u/s 174 of IPC. Sathyaraj, Ayyanarappan and Murugan were arrested in this regard.
