Police Atrocity and False Implication Marakanam PS

    A. Raghu (23), resident of Kaanimedu village, Tindivanam Taluk, Villupuram District, belongs to Dalit Paraiyar community. He is a daily wage labour. On 04/07/09, 3pm while he was sleeping in house, 15 police men from Marakanam Police Station under Inspector Muthukrishnan, came to his house and forcefully dragged him outside his house. Muthukrishnan slapped him repeatedly infront of the crowd. The police men pushed him into the Jeep and 7 of the police went inside his house and ransacked the properties under the pretext of investigation. After destroying the properties, they threw his belongings outside the house. Without explaining any reason for the arrest, they took him to the Marakanam police station. They remanded him from 04/07/09 to 06/07/09 9.45pm. Under the police custody, he was subject to brutal torture by Inspector Ramakrisnan, Bharathi, Selvam, Sheriff and Shankar, forcing him to accept the commission of assault and robbery from a lorry driver of money worth Rs. 125000. Previously he was falsely implicated for the arson of a bus. They handcuffed him and brutally beaten him all over his body, they kicked him with the boot over his face. Since the relatives and VCK political party members exerted pressure on the police perpetrators, they released him on 06/07/09 around 9.45 pm. Raghu filed a complaint with the Superintendent of Police and the Director General of Police, regarding this police atrocity, seeking severe action against the erred police men. But till date no action was initiated against the Inspector Ramakrisnan, Bharathi, Selvam, Sheriff and Shankar all belongs to Marakanam PS, who brutally tortured Raghu falsely implicating for a robbery case.

MURDER OF DALIT GIRL

    Hepsiba (20) Madiga is the resident of Wynchpet, Vijayawada. She is studying B.Tech final year at Nova Engineering College. She used to go by auto daily and return to home by 5:30pm in the evening. Her phone was switched off and they have come to know that she has not gone to college on that day. One of her friends said that Hepsiba has informed that she met with an accident and was afraid to say the same to her parents. Later her brother enquired at the Idea Cellular and got the data. As per the data he called to the last number and has come to know that the phone was Lashmi’s. Her husband Ramalinga Reddy is an auto driver and they reside at Lambadipet, Chitti nagar, Vijayawada. They launched a complaint in the II town police station of Vijayawada. The FIR was registered on 4th July bearing No: 233/09. The police have investigated and found the dead body of Hepsiba and arrested the accused Ramalinga Reddy. Ramalinga Reddy has admitted that he has murdered Hepsiba with the support of his wife and threw her body in the tank near Krishnayyapalem.

Dalit Panchayat President prevented to perform his duty

    P. Solaisamy (52), is the Panchayat Preident of Ayanrasapatti, Pudur Union, Ettayapuram Taluk, Thoothukudi District. He belongs to dalit Paraiyar community. Former panchayat president Mumurthy, belongs to dominant caste hindu Nayakkar community, indulged in corrupt pracises during his tenure. He usurped the funds given for the infrastructure development activities. As Solaisamy disclosed this corruptions to the district administration and Mumurthy was served notice regarding this. Since then  Mumurthy started intimidating Solaisamy by inducing others to file false charges against him. He prevented to perform his duties, through various forms of intimidations. Sivasubramanian Nadar, who supported Solaisamy asked for favourtism towards sanctioning loan and also in sand mining. As Solaisamy declined to support in his ventures, Sivasubramanian tried on his own and get caught. Hence as an act of revenge, he induced others to make false allegations against him. On one occasion Sivasubramanian himself rolled on the road and inflicted injury to himself and accused Solaisamy regarding this. Solaisamy and his son were arrested in this regard and released on bail. As the ward members Subbulakshmi, Chellamariappan, Tharmaraj and Sripriya, were absent for morethan three panchayat meeting, Solaisamy using section 204(1) of Panchayat President Act 1994, he submitted a letter to the district Magistrate seeking the removal of the above mentioned four ward members. Thus all the dominance caste hindu people, who were not able to tolerate the assertion of a Dalit, induced Dalits and caste hindus to file false cases against him accusing of money laundry.

     

    Due to this apprehension over a dalit panchayat presidentship, caste hindus like Mumurthy Nayakkar, Sivasubramanian Nadar, in association with other corrupt people, filed unnumber of false cases and making him to run from pillar to post. By doing so the perpetrators preventing him from his duty. District Administration and the concerned Adi Dravidar welfare board and panchayat department failed to take action against the perpetrators who are preventing Solaisamy from performing his duty.

Mob Attack due to Dalit Assertion

    P. Sakthivel, resident of Kottur Malaiyandipattinam, Pollachi Taluk, Coimbatore District, belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar community. In this village most of the dalits are working as a daliy wage agricultural labourers. Dalits are discriminated in this village, caste hindus practices untouchability against dalits. Sakthivel  initially worked as a labour in the agricultural fileds owned by Kounders like any other dalits of this village, later he engaged in eatery business and recently he bought a Mini door through loan and leading an independent and self sufficient life. He used to park his vehicle at the Mini door auto stand, on par with the caste hindus. Hence kounders are apprehensive over his assertion. Hence T. Bhupathi, with the motive to intimidate him, asked Sakthivel to do the loading work for him. But after the completion of the work, he refused to pay the agreed amount and he insisted others to do the same. Again Bupathi asked Sakthivel to do some assignments for him. Realizing the intention of Bupathi refused to do service for him. On 25/06/09 Bupathi who considered this as an insult, started disturbing Sakthivel, he blocked his vehicle and prevented him to go for work. Sakthivel reported this intimidation and humiliation to the Chinnarasu kounder who was the District Secretary of the DMK party. On 26/06/09, even after the complaint, Bupathi along with his friends, blocked Sakthivel’s vehicle disabling to go for work. Out of frustration, Sakthivel lodged a complaint with the Kottur Police station. Chinnarasu, who considered this as an insult, verbally abused Sakthivel and threatened him. Sakthivel, his relatives and other Dalits who were infuriated over the humiliation meted out to Sakthivel, staged a demonstration in front of the Kottur Police Station. Hence the police registered the complaint against Bupathi and Chinnarasu.

     

    On 27/06/09, as this news spread in the neighbourhood, caste hindus namely Tractor Balu, Senthil, Kundu Ravi, Krishnasamy and other kounders, who were apprehensive about the dalit assertion, brutally assaulted Loganathan, Murugan, Raju and Manikandan, who went to buy dinner from Muniyanidvilas Hotel. The victims who were assaulted with wooden logs sustained severe injury. All were rushed to the Pollachi Government Hospital. On 28/06/09, DSP visited the hospital and after registering the FIR against the perpetrators, arrested Krishnasamy, Balu, Kundu Ravi and Shenthil. The perpetrators lodged a false counter complaint against the victims and dalits namely Murugan and Rajan were arrested in this regard. Bupathi was not yet arrested by the police department.

Custodial Death of Dalit Saravanan - Pondicherry

    R. Saravanan (32), resident  of Gandhi Nagar, Gingee Taluk, Villupuram District, belongs to Dalit Kuravar community. He is working as a Mason in places like Chennai and Pondicherry. His wife name is Aaryamala and his children are Vinoth (10), Vidya (7) and Vignesh (3) and Saravanan visit his family during the week ends and gets back to work on week days. During June he went to Pondicherry for work. On 25/06/09, two police from Othiansalai police station visited Aryamala and informed that her husband Saravanan was remanded in police custody and he died in the Pondicherry Government Hospital. When Aryamala and Saravanan’s relatives saws the body of Saravanan. They witnessed that blood injury in his nose and ears, injury marks in his head, his legs have blood clots and wound marks. M. Ayyanar who went along with Saravanan, for masonry work in Pondicherry was missing since then. I. Suguna w/o Ayyanar, suspects the dirty hands of Othainsalai police officials might have killed him and destroyed all the evidences regarding this.

     

    Saravanan, who was remanded in the police custody under 34A III of PP Act was brutally tortured and he succumbed to the injury and died due to this torture. The injury marks clearly exposes the brutal torture of Saravanan. He was arrested without informing his family and relatives. Later Aryamala was provided with monetary compensation of Rs. 250000. Ayyanar whereabouts and suspicious missing in still under investigation.
