K. Saranya (15) d/o Sevakan Pusari, resident of Ponnusamynayakkar compound, VOC Nagar, Tirupur District, belongs to Dalit Paraiyar community. She was working as s helper in the Garment company. During the month of April, while Saranya went to the public toilet during midnight, Ranjith, resident of same locality and belongs to pandiya Vannar community, forcefully entered into the bathroom and raped her. After raping her, he threatened that he will kill her and her siblings, if she report this to anyone. Due to fear Saranya have not revealed this to any one. He raped her 6 more times on different occasion and threatened her not to disclose this to anyone. Recently her parents moved to new house within the same VOC Nagar. On 03/06/09, as she had head and fever, her parents took her to the hospital. During the medical treatment, her parents came to know that she was pregnant. As her parents insisted to tell the truth, she revealed that Ranjith raped her on several occasions during the last four months. Hence Saranya parents went to Ranjith to enquire about this rape. But Ranjith denied the accusation and tried to escaped by giving them Rs. 10000. Later Saranya parents lodged a complaint with the Tiruppur women police station and the perpetrator was arrested for this atrocity. Later Saranya was provided Rs. 15000 as monetary compensation from the SP account.
Oandipudur, Singanallur, Variety Mahal and Sullivan Road regions of Coimbatore city are home to nearly 2817 scavengers belongs to Dalit Arunthathiyar community. In this regions, Kanduvatti businessmen belongs to dominant caste hindu communities, voluntarily provide loans charging exorbitant interest rates. Hence most of the scavengers were indebted to these kanduvatti businessmen. If they fails to pay the interest on time, these men won’t hesitate to ransack the properties of the debtors. They threaten the poor scavengers and verbally abuse them referring derogatory regarding caste name. If the debtors fails to pay the interest on time, they took away their belonging by trespassing their home. Since the government started paying the wages through banks, these Kanduvatti businessmen threaten them and snatch their ATM card, Pass Book and their secret Pin number. Once the salary was credited, they withdraw the money on their own without seeking permission of the account holders (Scavengers). These creditors charge Rs.10 for every Rs.100 per month. Since most of the scavengers caught in the web of these Kanduvatti businessmen, victims have been appealing the government to take the initiative to release from this trauma. Lot of petitions has been sent to higher authorities of the government, but in vain.
Dalit women of Tarapuram Taluk from villages namely Karapur, Krishnapuram, Karuppampalayam, Meenakshimangalam, Thalavaipattinam, and D. Kumarapalayam, filed a petition with the Agricultural Department through Adi Dravidar Welfare Department under Adi Dravidar Women Agricultural Land Scheme of TAHDCO. Hence the Agricultural Department indentified 12 acres of land in the D. Kumarapalayam, of Tarapuram Taluk, belongs to Palanisamy Kounder. Palanisamy Kounder agreed to sell the lands for Rs. 100000 for each acre. Hence all the 12 dalit women paid Rs. 25000 as advance and Agreement was made in this regard to transfer the ownership on the payment of remaining Rs. 75000. But Palanisamy sold all the lands to Sadhasivam for Rs. 110000/ acre. On knowing this, on 31/05/09, Kuppusamy, Chinnappan, Karupaayee and Karuppaathal, went to Palanisamy Kounder house located in D. Kumarapalayam. They raised objection for his illegal sale of the land to other person without their knowledge. Infuriated Palanisamy, who was not able to tolerate the assertion of dalits, verbally abused them referring derogatory regarding caste name. He and his nephew Mohan, threatened to shoot them to death. As the perpetrators tried to attack them, they escaped from the place of incident. On 01/06/09, the victims filed a complaint with the Mulanoor Police Station. But the Police have not arrested the perpetrators.
Later this case was CLOSED as MISTAKE OF FACTS by the DISTRICT VIGILANCE AND MONITORING COMMITTEE.
